Ask us before you buy.
Which angle should I use — 15° or 20°?
20° if you do not know: it suits German and most Western knives. 15° for Japanese knives and anything ground thin. Pick one per knife and stay on it — switching means cutting a new bevel.
Will it damage an expensive knife?
The block is the protection: it removes the wrong-angle stroke that ruins good knives. Two cautions — start on 3000 grit if the knife is only tired, and know that going from 20° to 15° is a reprofile, not a touch-up.
Why does it cost less than other rolling sharpeners?
The rolling design is not proprietary. Rollkeen's price covers the magnet, the roller and the abrasives, with both discs in the box, rather than a brand name.
Do the discs wear out?
Yes — every abrasive does. Monthly touch-ups last a long time; reprofiling hard steel wears the 400 grit disc much faster.
Does the roller seize up?
It can happen with any rolling sharpener, when dust gets into the bearing or dry air shrinks the wood onto the shaft. Wipe the metal dust off after each session. If yours stiffens anyway, email us — with the lifetime warranty, we replace it.
Do I need water or oil?
No. Both discs run dry — no soaking, no slurry, nothing to drain.
Why doesn't the very tip get as sharp?
The tip sits past the end of the magnet, so the block is not holding it flat. Every rolling sharpener has this. Lift the handle slightly over the last inch and two or three passes bring the tip in.
How long until it arrives?
